Balgarianovinite.com On Friday, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church issued an official call for public condemnation of violence, following the murder in Plovdiv of 37-year-old Georgi Kuzev.
“Such an act of extreme aggression and blatant lawlessness shakes the very foundations of our society’s moral conscience and demands unequivocal spiritual and public condemnation,” the statement reads.
The Holy Synod recalls that human life is a sacred and inviolable gift from God.
“Let us stand up to the growing tide of violence, indifference and spiritual poverty that is eroding the moral foundations of our people, and return to the Christian values of mercy, brotherly love and mutual respect,” the statement, published on the website of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church adds.
On August 4, a group of teenagers lured through social media 37-year-old Kuzev to Plovdiv’s Youth Hill locality, where they assaulted him for more than an hour. The victim died at the hospital several hours later from the severe injuries sustained. Three boys and two girls, aged between 14 and 17, have since been arrested and charged with murder, committed in complicity in a particularly cruel manner, motivated by hooliganism and sexual motives.
