Balgarianovinite.com Nessebar Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov described hosting the Eurovision Song Contest as an opportunity for Bulgaria’s entire Black Sea coast, and particularly the Southern Black Sea coast. Speaking to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) on Saturday, he said the event could build on the publicity the region has generated over the years, including through the Giro d’Italia cycling race, which passed through the area in May 2026.
“Burgas is currently well represented. We have also contributed presentations highlighting our tourism potential, cultural heritage and the events we organize in the municipality, as have our colleagues along the Black Sea coast,” Dimitrov said. He added that Burgas being selected should be seen as an opportunity for the whole country.
According to Dimitrov, the upcoming music event could provide a positive start to the summer season. He called on hoteliers and everyone working in the tourism sector to act responsibly and comply with requirements regarding hygiene, service and organization. He noted that accommodation facilities not only in Sunny Beach but throughout Nessebar Municipality are in good condition.
Burgas Airport has supported the city’s bid, including by highlighting flight options and connections via Istanbul and other destinations.
“This requires serious preparation, and at the local level we will also hold meetings with industry organizations, the Union of Owners, hoteliers and restaurateurs, because we need to present a unified product and a common image,” Dimitrov said. He added that strong oversight would be needed both of tourism services and attractions to ensure the region makes a good impression.
The Mayor of Nessebar also said that the municipality has been continuously investing in infrastructure in recent years and is ready to provide businesses with the necessary administrative support as preparations get underway for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in 2027.
“We already have ideas for accompanying events to support the contest. There is still work to be done, and I am confident that, through joint efforts, we will put on an excellent presentation,” Dimitrov said.
Speaking about Nessebar’s official holiday celebrated on August 15, the Dormition of the Mother of God, the mayor invited residents and visitors to join the evening celebrations. He said that between 30,000 and 40,000 people traditionally gather in Nessebar on the holiday.
The evening programme will include a concert by Vasil Naydenov in front of the fortress walls of the Old Town, as well as a drone and light show.
