Balgarianovinite.com The branch of the National Academy of Art in Burgas launches a Master’s programme on “Cultural Heritage of the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast.” It has been developed by the Department of Art History especially for the Burgas branch, the National Academy of Art said Wednesday.
The programme lasts three semesters and focuses on the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast – from antiquity to the late 20th century. The programme combines an in-depth study of artistic processes in the region with contemporary approaches to the research, preservation, and promotion of cultural and historical values.
One of the main focuses is the connection between cultural heritage and the development of cultural tourism. Students will acquire knowledge and practical skills that can be applied in the fields of culture, art, tourism, and local government, as well as in the development of policies for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
The programme includes lectures and practical sessions, visits to cultural monuments, art collections, and galleries, as well as fieldwork. Students will work within a broad interdisciplinary context that brings together art history, history, archaeology, restoration, and arts management.
Among the programme’s lecturers are established specialists – art historians, historians, archaeologists, conservators, and experts in the field of arts management. Particular attention is given to individual work with students, which will enable them to develop their creativity and professional potential.
During the third semester, students will present the results of their research in a written Master’s thesis, developed with the support of a leading tenured lecturer from the Department of Art History.
Graduates of the programme will be able to pursue careers as cultural tourism managers, museum experts, gallery owners and curators, cultural heritage specialists, and cultural destination organizers. Career opportunities are also available in municipal, State, and non-governmental organizations, travel agencies, the media, and specialized publications. The programme will also provide opportunities to participate in the development of municipal and regional programmes for the development, conservation, and promotion of cultural and historical heritage.

In addition to “Cultural Heritage of the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast,” this academic year the Burgas branch also launches a Master’s programme on “Conservation of Underwater Cultural Heritage,” developed in partnership with the Underwater Heritage Institute and focused on the study, conservation, and restoration of the underwater cultural heritage of the Black Sea region.
