Balgarianovinite.com The Gala in Sofia festival, organized by renowned Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, begins on Sunday evening.
“Starting with a recital in 2021, the festival continued with a concert in 2025, and has now grown into three separate events in 2026 – a spectacular DJ party, an exciting opera performance, and a unique crossover concert. The events will take place on August 23, 25, and 27, in the square in front of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral,” Yoncheva’s team said.
French DJ Charles B will take the stage on Sunday for a free open-air performance. He has gained international recognition for his signature blend of classical and electronic music, introducing millions of young people around the world to the masterpieces of Vivaldi, Mozart, and Beethoven.
With the artist’s first-ever visit to Bulgaria, Sonya Yoncheva is making a gesture toward younger generations, as well as toward all residents and visitors to the city.
The festival continues on August 25 with the opera “Tosca”, with Sonya Yoncheva, alongside tenor Jonas Kaufmann and nearly 100 musicians will be on stage. The two world-renowned stars will perform together in Bulgaria for the first time in their signature roles.
According to the organizers, the highlight of this year’s Gala in Sofia will be the crossover concert “Blue Night” on August 27, featuring violinist David Garrett and Sonya Yoncheva. The programme will include classics by Paganini, Bizet, and Handel, as well as modern works by Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Queen, and Edith Piaf, along with Bulgarian folk music. The Sofia Opera Choir and Orchestra will perform under the baton of Grigor Palikarov and Leonardo Sini.
