Balgarianovinite.com A delegation, led by Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) President Vesela Lecheva, is on a three-day visit to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne at the invitation of IOC President Kirsty Coventry, the organization announced.
Lecheva is accompanied by two members of the BOC Executive Bureau: Vice President and Rector of the National Sports Academy Prof. Krasimir Petkov, and Radoslav Yankov, the 2016 Snowboard World Cup winner in the parallel disciplines and a four-time Olympic participant, who also serves as the athletes’ representative.
The programme begins early Monday morning with an official welcome for the Bulgarian representatives by the IOC’s senior leadership. The Bulgarian delegation will hold a series of high-level working meetings. The talks will be hosted personally by IOC President Kirsty Coventry, accompanied by her Chief of Staff Jan Paterson.
The main focus of the discussions will be the strategic partnership between the BOC and the international Olympic movement. The programme includes meetings with IOC directors and leading experts. New opportunities for funding Bulgarian athletes, youth programs, and sports development in the region will be discussed.
The talks will also address issues concerning Olympians and their future after retiring from active competition. Standards for good governance and the models under which the BOC should operate will also be discussed.
“This visit is a clear sign of the high standing Bulgaria enjoys within the international Olympic family. Our goal is to secure even stronger support for Bulgarian talent, exchange expertise in sports management, and strengthen our position as one of the countries whose Olympic committee has a history spanning more than 100 years, renowned champions, and international recognition,” BOC President Vesela Lecheva said ahead of the meetings.
The visit to Lausanne is part of the BOC’s long-term strategy to modernize Bulgaria’s sports organizations and expand the country’s international influence ahead of the next major Olympic events. It is also the first official visit by BOC’s new leadership.
“The institutional support that the IOC provided to the BOC leadership elected in 2025 was extremely important, above all on a moral level. This support was given in the interest of Bulgarian sport and demonstrated that international institutions respect and uphold the rules in order to preserve the Olympic movement. Our duty now is to manage the organization transparently and in the interests of athletes and sports organizations,” she added.
