Balgarianovinite.com Recording a vaccination that was never administered is a serious breach of professional responsibility and of the trust between doctors and patients, the Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) said in a position on Monday.
If public reports of such cases involving measles immunizations are confirmed, such conduct would violate the medical profession’s ethical and professional principles, BMA added.
On August 21, the Lovech Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) alerted the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Regional Health Insurance Fund (RHIF) over suspicions that three doctors had recorded mandatory measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccinations that had not actually been administered, Director Darinka Docheva of the Communicable Disease Surveillance Directorate at the Lovech RHI told BTA at the time.
BMA said it does not accept or tolerate such practices. Every report should be investigated by the competent authorities and, if a violation is proven, those responsible should be held accountable as provided by law. The circumstances must be established beyond doubt in each case. Both doctors and parents bear responsibility for the vaccination process, so the actions of both parties should be examined where a violation is established. The Health Ministry is responsible for investigating and analyzing individual cases, BMA added.
