Balgarianovinite.com The Vidin Fair opened on Monday with performances by the municipal wind orchestra and Diana Express.
The event continues a tradition spanning more than 130 years. It dates back to 1896, when the first Agricultural and Livestock Exhibition was established in Vidin and subsequently developed into an annual fair.
Admission is free, with popular Bulgarian, Romanian and Serbian performers taking the stage each evening. The programme for the coming days features Adrian Minune on August 25, Kamelia on August 26, Miroslav Ilic on August 27, Ivana on August 28 and Keba on August 29. Before the headline concerts, the Dunav Folk Song and Dance Ensemble, the Vidin Municipal Wind Orchestra, amateur ensembles and music clubs from the region will perform.
More than 50 traders, producers and traditional craftspeople from Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania are participating in this year’s fair. The stalls offer a wide range of goods and handcrafted products. Attractions for all ages, food outlets and confectionery stalls are also available.
“Permitted noise limits will be strictly observed, and outdoor sound systems will be switched off each night,” Vidin Deputy Mayor for Humanitarian Activities and Social Policy Borislava Borisova said.
She added that Vidin Municipality, together with the Ministry of Interior authorities, had taken all necessary measures to maintain public order and security and manage traffic.
“Please join us. We look forward to creating a festive atmosphere and sharing many wonderful experiences together,” Borisova said.
The fair is being held on the site of a former military unit near Baba Vida Fortress and will run through August 29.
The fair is part of Vidin Municipality’s cultural calendar through the end of August, which also includes the Badin Medieval Festival and the Dunav Ultra cycling tour.
