Russophiles National Movement Board Members Georgi Dimov, Dimitar Shivikov Nominated for President, Vice President 2026

Balgarianovinite.com The People’s Force Initiative Committee has nominated Assoc. Prof. Georgi Dimov and Brigadier General Dimitar Shivikov as its candidates for president and vice president, respectively, in the presidential elections scheduled for October. The two were presented at a news conference at Park Hotel Moskva in Sofia on Tuesday.
Both candidates are Board members at Russophiles national movement, while Dimov is also Chair of the People’s Force civic movement.
“Bulgaria needs a president and vice president who are erudite, competent, actively engaged in civic life, have clear national causes, and understand that sovereignty does not mean isolation but the ability to make its own decisions and defend the interests of its people,” said Initiative Committee Chair Valentin Kardamski. “That is why we are nominating Assoc. Prof. Georgi Dimov and Brigadier General Dimitar Shivikov for president and vice president, who uphold sovereigntist principles and defend national causes and understand the need for Bulgaria to be a strong state and not sever diplomatic relations with any country in the world,” Kardamski added.
Dimov outlined his 10 priorities, including pursuing a policy of peace and neutrality, economic sovereignty, financial policy, safeguarding national security, defence capabilities, an independent foreign policy and restoring dialogue with Russia. “Expert governance and direct democracy, combating corrupt practices, preserving Bulgarian identity and traditional values, and freedom of speech” will also be important to him.
“I accepted this challenge because the strength lies in the Bulgarian people, and my motivation is for them to recogniзe and understand that there is an alternative in these elections and support us,” Shivikov said. He stressed that, as vice president, he would visit Russia. “Russia is not an aggressor in my eyes, and Crimea is Russian,” he said. According to him, the presidency may have limited powers, but it is an extremely influential and inspiring institution “if a worthy president is at its helm.”
Dimov is a scholar and university lecturer, the Initiative Committee said. He was born in 1981 in Ruse. He graduated from Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski with degrees in Archaeology and History. He has specialised at a number of Balkan and European research centres and academies. He is the founder of numerous patriotic, historical and civic organisations and initiatives, the Initiative Commitee added.
Shivikov is a military officer from the Bulgarian Armed Forces, the Initiative Committee said. He was born in 1963 in Kurtovo Konare, Stamboliyski Municipality. He graduated from the Vasil Levski National Military University and the G. S. Rakovski National Defence College. He held command positions in the Bulgarian Armed Forces, including in the 68th Special Forces Brigade and the Land Forces Staff. He commanded the Bulgarian contingent in Iraq and served as national contingent commander in Afghanistan. In 2012, he was promoted to brigadier general and appointed commander of the 61st Stryama Mechanized Brigade. He is actively involved in public affairs concerning defence and national sovereignty.
