Balgarianovinite.com Despite the opinion expressed by medical specialists, it seems that the priority at the moment is not to allow Iva Mihaylova to leave for medical treatment, but rather to prove that she is guilty by any means possible, Progressive Bulgaria MP Boyko Mladenov said Monday. Mladenov, along with several other members of the Bulgarian Parliament, attended the court hearing against Mihaylova in the town of Kocani, North Macedonia.
Mladenov said that the court was unlikely to consider Iva Mihaylova’s pre-trial detention measure today, which is preventing her from travelling to Bulgaria for medical treatment.
He said that the Bulgarian MPs were witnessing proceedings in which the prosecution was repeatedly interrupting the defence and attempting to distort certain facts or present them in a way that diminished their significance for the further course of the trial.
Mladenov described today’s testimony by the expert witnesses as the most interesting part of the proceedings. “Based on my understanding of the case materials and the facts, I believe that any claim of Iva Mihaylova’s guilt can categorically be challenged,” the Bulgarian MP said.
He expressed hope that what was heard in the courtroom would influence the court to reach a decision as soon as possible, at the very least to allow Iva Mihaylova to be released so that she can receive medical treatment in Bulgaria, and ultimately to lead to “an acquittal”, which, in his view, “she deserves”.
The case against Iva Mihaylova, who is a citizen of both Bulgaria and North Macedonia, concerns her involvement in a traffic accident in which one person was killed. Mihaylova has been charged with a serious offence related to road traffic safety in North Macedonia. The accident occurred in early October 2025, leaving several people, including Mihaylova, injured. Her identity documents were confiscated following the accident, preventing her from receiving treatment in Bulgaria, one of the countries where such treatment is possible given the nature of her spinal injuries.
