Balgarianovinite.com The 22nd edition of Plovdiv’s Autumn Arts Salon opened on Monday, launching three months of festivals, concerts, exhibitions, theatre and literary events across the city. The programme runs through September, October and November and brings together cultural institutions, creative organizations, artists and performers.
The opening took place at Plovdiv’s Ancient Theatre with the premiere of actor Deyan Donkov’s one-man show “Don Juan’s Last Escape”, based on a text by Nedelyko Slavov.
Traditionally organized by Plovdiv Municipality in cooperation with cultural institutions, creative guilds, operators and artists, the Autumn Arts Salon is the city’s largest cultural event and brings together a wide range of artistic genres and generations.
“Over the next three months, theatres, stages and exhibition halls will become meeting places for artists, creators and audiences from Bulgaria and abroad. The Autumn Arts Salon is precisely a meeting – of genres, generations and creative ideas, but above all, a meeting between our city’s millennia-old history and contemporary art,” Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov said at the opening. “This is why the Ancient Theatre is the most appropriate place to open the festival – a place where the past is brought back to life through music, theatre, talent and artists.”
The exhibition programme includes the National Autumn Exhibitions “Plovdiv 2026: Mirrors of the City”, curated by Genadi Gatev, the 12th edition of the international drawing plein air “Large Format: Dialogue”, exhibitions marking the 50th anniversary of the Tsanko Lavrenov National High School of Arts, the anniversary exhibition “130 Years of the National Academy of Art”, “Discoveries 2025: Threshold Between Worlds”, and “Human Passions: The Price of Desire” at the Regional Archaeological Museum – Plovdiv, among others.
The programme also includes the 2026 International Photography Meetings, “Memory and Identity”, as well as exhibitions from the 13th International Photo Salon Plovdiv 2026.
A number of major festivals are part of the Autumn Arts Salon, including the 30th edition of the “Stage at the Crossroads” Autumn International Theatre Festival, TheatAir, a street arts festival module, the “Curtain Under the Stars” Theatre Panorama of Comedies, Opera Open 2026, Plovdiv Jazz Fest, Chamber Stage Plovdiv, the 17th International Festival “Days of Music at the Balabanov House”, the Stand-up Comedy Festival and the 12th edition of the CineLibri International Film and Literature Festival, “Civilization of the Spectacle”, among others.
The programme also features concerts by The Actors and the rock band The King’s New Clothes, the concert-performance “The Bulgarian Dress”, conceived by designer Ivan Donev, and the dance performance “Two Homes” by the State Music and Dance Ensemble of Armenia and the Trakia Folklore Ensemble.
