FBI Director Kash Patel on Sunday looked to knock down any conspiracy theories surrounding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, saying the feds will pursue “every lead” and will not stop until “every question is answered” about the shooting.
Patel, in a post on X on Sunday afternoon, said the FBI cannot share “every piece of information” it has with the public right now about its investigation. But the director said the bureau is poring over every aspect of Kirk’s murder, including whether the suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, worked with others and whether hand signals were used to coordinate with accomplices, Patel said.

We are examining every facet of this assassination. We are meticulously investigating theories and questions, including the location from where the shot was taken, the possibility of accomplices, the text message confession and related conversations, Discord chats, the angle of the shot and bullet impact, how the weapon was transported, hand gestures observed as potential ‘signals’ near Charlie at the time of his assassination, and visitors to the alleged shooter’s residence in the hours and days leading up to September 10, 2025. Some details are known today, while others are still being pursued to ensure every possibility is considered. Our primary focus is to complete this investigation and deliver justice. To protect the integrity of the investigation and subsequent prosecution, we cannot release every piece of information we have to the public right now.
Patel addressed one specific conspiracy theory about why a plane had allegedly turned off its transponder after taking off near the assassination site in Utah. The FBI director said that, after talking to the pilot and the FAA, “we determined the transponder was not turned off. Incomplete flight data in rural areas caused the apparent gap.”
He added: “The entire FBI mourns the loss of Charlie Kirk. We will not rest until justice is served, and our investigation into this assassination will continue until every question is answered.”
His Sunday comments were shared, not only an hour before Kirk’s memorial was set to start in Arizona, but also after conspiracy theories about Kirk’s death have started to pop up.
CNN reporter Marshall Cohen on Saturday broke down some of the conspiracies from both the left and the right.
“Some left-wing figures promoted the unhinged idea that Donald Trump himself orchestrated the murder to distract from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and the Jeffrey Epstein files,” Cohen said. “Other liberal activists tried to connect the suspect to far right-white supremacist groups that had previously clashed with Kirk, even though there is mounting evidence that the suspect disliked Kirk’s conservative views.”
On the right, Cohen said Trump allies like Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer have claimed that lone suspect Tyler Robinson was a bit player in a wide-reaching terror network.
“They’re peddling this even as the authorities say that the suspect acted alone. Other right wing influencers are leaning heavily into anti-semitic tropes to blame Israel,” Cohen said.
Candace Owens, meanwhile, is baselessly claiming a “federal conspiracy” is covering up the real story behind Kirk’s murder.
