Ashley St. Clair, former girlfriend of billionaire Elon Musk and mother to one of his children, told Don Lemon she personally witnessed the billionaire using ketamine recreationally and taking psychedelic mushrooms as she opened up about his alleged drug use.
St. Clair, who shares son Romulus with the Tesla and SpaceX chief, made the claims during an interview with Lemon after the podcast host recalled questioning Musk about his acknowledged use of prescription ketamine.
Musk has previously said he was prescribed ketamine for depression, but St. Clair claimed the drug use she witnessed went beyond therapeutic treatment.
“I have family members who have had great success from ketamine or ayahuasca treatments with professionals. The way I saw him –” she said. “Yeah. There’s there but that’s not the way he was using it. At least from my observation.”
Pressed on what she meant, St. Clair replied: “I saw him use it recreationally.”
She claimed she had seen Musk using ketamine “in a party sense on New Year’s randomly” and alleged he was deeply concerned at the time about the possibility of being subjected to drug testing because of his government contracts.
“He was scared they were going to take his fingernails and fingernail drug test him,” she said.
St. Clair stressed that she was not personally opposed to occasional recreational drug use, but accused Musk of misleading the public about his own behavior.
“The volume at which he lies, and to the scale of people, is astonishing,” she said. “Like to just go tell the whole world I don’t do drugs. That’s just not true at all. It’s not true.”
Asked whether ketamine was the only drug she had witnessed Musk taking, St. Clair said: “No. No. I saw him take mushrooms and there were other things that I was unsure of.”
The allegations follow a 2025 New York Times investigation that reported Musk’s drug use had intensified during his growing involvement in politics, including alleged use of ketamine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms. Musk attacked the newspaper’s credibility and subsequently posted what appeared to be drug-test results showing negative results.
The issue also became entangled in Musk’s political rupture with President Donald Trump, with reports that Trump privately described his former adviser as a “drug addict.”
St. Clair declined to identify others she claimed were aware of Musk’s behavior, telling Lemon she feared exposing them to his retaliation.
Lemon asked whether they were recognizable figures, she replied: “People that the whole world knows.”
