Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville noted on Newsmax that the Republican Party’s tremendous midterm election war chest “counts for something” despite numerous polls showing voters’ dislike of the party.
Speaking Thursday with Newsmax anchor Rob Finnerty, Carville discussed polls showing Democrats with a hefty advantage in various Senate races, just 46 days away from the midterms.
Several major GOP political action committees have amassed more than $600 million, representing a nearly double edge over their Democratic rivals, according to reports.
Carville said the cash will make a difference:
I don’t trust these polls right now. But Is that how you think this is going to shake out in the fall? Republicans are going to lose all of those races?
JAMES CARVILLE: So let me explain something. If you have seven contested races, let’s say you’re looking at seven Senate races. The most unlikely outcome is 4 to 3. It usually breaks one way.
So it’s much more likely to end up six one than four three. It’s probably more likely to end up seven zero than two six or something like seven zero for Democrats. Things break one way or the other.
FINNERTY: Yeah, yeah. We got a little more than 45 days to go. Do you think this breaks for Democrats?
CARVILLE: Well, you would expect me to say yes. But the way I would frame it is the Democrats have the momentum. But remember, the Republicans have the money. But by more than a little bit.
And the Democrats are going to get outspent easily $150 to $200 million.
Now we can debate how much that counts. And I’m not exactly sure, but it counts for something.
But and we can debate how accurate to a point polls are. But when you got a lot of them pointing in the same direction, it’s probably a pretty good idea to pay attention to them.
