President Donald Trump announced Friday that he was “banning” CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, with more to come.
“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them “alive.” Seems like corruption to me!), from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote, promising, “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”
During his first term, Trump banned Jim Acosta, then with CNN, from the White House, arguing that a video clip showed him “striking” an aide’s arm when he reached for the press room microphone.
CNN filed suit, saying taking Acosta’s press credentials violated his First Amendment Rights, and a judge agreed.
The judge said the network and its Acosta “had shown a likelihood they’d succeed on the merits of their due process claim,” and Acosta was ordered to be reinstated.”
Trump effectively declared war on the media at the start of his second term, creating a “Media Bias” page on the White House web site to list grievances against various media outlets that may have reported unflattering information about the president.
Trump has repeatedly denigrated mostly female reporters, most recently aggressively lunging at Rachel Scott with ABC News and berating her when she questioned the president about his $5,000 “dividend” checks promised to every adult American if Republicans keep control of Congress after the midterms.
In addition, “Lower-court judges have ruled against the Trump administration in 75 First Amendment cases during his second term,” according to The Daily Record.
