President Donald Trump bizarrely posted a list of his “TOP 25” accomplishments on Truth Social Friday that included the ongoing war in Iran — while declaring them the achievements of his nonexistent “TERM THREE.”
The list touched on everything from immigration and tariffs to taxes, the stock market, transgender policies, and foreign affairs. Most notably, Trump counted the ongoing war in Iran among his accomplishments, claiming his administration had “obliterated Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity” through Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury and ensured the country would “NEVER have a nuclear weapon.” He also touted the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, claimed to have settled eight wars, and highlighted his deployment of the National Guard to several U.S. cities.
And oddly enough, the sprawling list was captioned, “TOP 25 TRUMP ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF TERM THREE.”
As with many of the president’s claims on the list, his characterization of the Iran war is far from clear-cut.
On Tuesday, CBS News published photos, sent to the network by active-duty service members, showing extensive damage to U.S. military positions from Iranian missile and drone attacks. One deployed U.S. troop told CBS the destruction amounted to “major damage to our bases that hasn’t been communicated to the American public,” adding, “We’re standing there with our eyes closed getting punched in the face.”
The Defense Department’s inspector general also reported this week that the war has resulted in up to $3.7 billion in “equipment losses,” including close to 60 aircraft.
Not to mention, according to The Washington Post on Friday, the number of U.S. service members who have died in the Middle East since the war began is higher than the Pentagon has publicly disclosed. Five officials familiar with the Defense Department’s internal casualty data told the Post that at least 22 service members have died — four more than the 18 listed in the Pentagon’s public database — while a sixth put the number at 23.
