Hollywood actor Tim Allen revealed Thursday that he has finally chosen to forgive the drunk driver who killed his father more than sixty years ago after being moved by Erika Kirk’s public decision to forgive her husband’s killer.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10. It was at a memorial event held in Arizona on Sunday, attended by President Donald Trump and his Cabinet members, that Erika delivered her emotional eulogy during which she made the striking statement.
“When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: ‘That man… that young man… I forgive him.’ That moment deeply affected me,” Allen wrote on X.
He added: “I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: ‘I forgive the man who killed my father.’”
Allen was 11 years old when his father, real estate agent Gerald Dick, died in a 1964 crash caused by a drunk driver. The actor, who has often spoken about his uneasy relationship with faith, concluded his message simply: “Peace be with you all.”
