More than 550,000 low-income people will receive a one-off payment of EUR 50 to help offset higher consumption costs resulting from increased fuel prices, under a new government measure adopted by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.
Eligible recipients include people and families with incomes below the poverty line who receive social assistance; children and young people up to the age of 21 without parental care who are leaving residential social services; people receiving heating aid for the current winter season; and families raising children with permanent disabilities.
The EUR 50 payment will also go to orphaned children receiving family benefits, children placed with relatives or foster families, as well as disabled war veterans and people affected by war who receive social support.
The compensation will be paid automatically by Social Assistance directorates across the country, using the same method by which recipients receive their other social benefits, either by bank transfer or through the post. No application will be required.
