The European Week of Sport #BeActive 2026 was launched by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Encho Keryazov in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia on Wednesday. Also participating were Health Minister Katya Ivkova, Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the European Commission’s Representation in Bulgaria, and Olympic karate champion Ivet Goranova, who is also an ambassador for the European Week of Sport.
The European Week of Sport #BeActive is an initiative of the European Commission aimed at promoting physical activity and an active lifestyle.
“Health is built every day, step by step. Let us take another one today,” said Health Minister Katya Ivkova, as quoted by her ministry. The initiative brings together institutions, athletes, and citizens around the shared goal of increased physical activity and a healthier lifestyle. “We often think about healthcare only when a problem has already arisen, but our major task should be different: to reach the individual sooner, before the diagnosis, before the medication, before the hospital,” she said.
The launch marked the beginning of a series of initiatives taking place in Sofia and across the country. On September 26, the area in front of the National Palace of Culture will host the #BeActive Sports Village, featuring demonstrations of over 45 sports, followed by the #BeActive Sports Night. The campaign continues with regional events in Vidin, Berkovitsa and Dupnitsa. On the same day, from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m, teams from the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate will conduct free, anonymous testing for HIV and hepatitis B and C, assist with activating the eZdrave mobile app and provide citizens with advice on the health risks associated with low physical activity.
