China’s Hebei province and the Trakia Economic Zone in Plovdiv Region signed a cooperation memorandum, the Plovdiv Regional Administration said on Friday. The agreement aims to boost industrial and technology exchanges between the two economic zones, with a focus on green energy and technology.
The Chinese delegation visiting Plovdiv emphasized that Hebei is undergoing an industrial transformation focused on innovation, decarbonization and hydrogen technologies. During the meeting, a Chinese high-tech company announced plans to invest in a Bulgarian plant producing energy-storage systems, inverters and related components.
The meeting also covered food security and agricultural cooperation, as Chinese representatives highlighted technologies including saltwater-resistant rice and methods for developing desert areas for agriculture. They pointed out that continued food imports could create opportunities for Bulgarian agricultural exports.
Two agricultural cooperation demonstration zones with Chinese investment are already operating in Plovdiv Region, as the region also has sister-province agreements with China’s Hainan and Liaoning provinces.
