Bulgaria will be ready to offer a concession for the southern Ruse-Makaza motorway section in 18 months, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov said on Monday.
By then, the State expects to have the designs and procedures in place for the Veliko Tarnovo-Makaza section. No EU funding is available for that stretch, so it will seek private investment through a concession, Shishkov said. EU funding has been secured for the northern section from Ruse to Veliko Tarnovo, including the Byala bypass.
“In a year and a half, we will be ready to offer the motorway as a concession. After that, however long concession negotiations and the technical design take, the timetable will be quite different once we have reached that stage,” Shishkov told reporters in Kardzhali.
Shishkov met Kardzhali Regional Governor Biser Nikolov and mayors from the region as part of the Regions Speak initiative.
He cited widespread errors in cadastral maps as a serious structural problem affecting many regional centres, including Kardzhali. Shishkov said the inaccuracies hinder municipal and State projects as well as private initiatives by residents. The State will commission comprehensive corrections to the maps on its own initiative, he added, because the problem is widespread and cannot be resolved by individual property owners.
