Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) is getting absolutely skewered by her fellow conservatives for running a new ad depicting a young White man as a lazy, video-game-obsessed freeloader living off of welfare.
Sanders posted the video to X on Monday morning — and it was immediately ripped to shreds. Right-wing pundits and users bashed the ad for bogusly depicting White men as the main beneficiaries of welfare, while others said it was socially clueless because it dismissed how hard it is for guys to get jobs, one month after women accounted for 98% of new hires.
The 30-second ad showed a grubby young White guy named “Brad” passionately playing a video game and chowing down on Cheetos, before taking a snooze on his beanbag.
“Meet Brad. Brad has turned relaxing into a full-time profession,” Sanders said in the clip. “But you, you actually work hard, you pay taxes to cover welfare for guys like Brad, who just choose not to work.”
She went on to say fellas like Brad are the reason she put a “welfare to work” plan in place earlier this year.
But rather than getting kudos for her plan, Sanders was slammed for the ad.
The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh posted that the ad absurdly painted the White men as “welfare leeches.”
“Meanwhile, back in reality, women are significantly more likely to be on welfare than men. And Black people are astronomically more likely to be on welfare than white people,” Walsh posted. “So the number of single young white male ‘Brads’ abusing the welfare system is minuscule. Practically non-existent.”
He continued, “But of course Republicans don’t have the balls to do this ad with ‘Shaniqua’ as the villain. Even though that would actually be an accurate portrayal of the problem at hand.”
Plenty of others agreed.
The Federalist CEO Sean Davis posted, “Our government has systematically discriminated against White men for decades now, and yet now has the audacity to dishonestly mock young White men as welfare queens.”
And Auron MacIntyre and John Doyle from The Blaze weren’t thrilled about it, either.
Conservative influencer Jack Posobiec responded to the ad by asking Grok if White men had the highest rate of welfare participation in Arkansas.
“No. Black or African American households have the highest SNAP participation rate in Arkansas at 22%, versus 8% for White and 10% for Hispanic households,” the AI bot responded. “Whites form the largest share of recipients due to population size, but rates are lower. White males do not lead; female-headed households and Black residents show higher involvement overall.”
Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet and plenty of others called out the ad as well.

Meanwhile, former cable news host Keith Olbermann found it “hilarious” that conservatives were upset about the ad, which has been viewed more than 3.5 million times by Monday afternoon.
“Huck puts out the first honest TV ad by a Republican in 75 years and the White Power GOP Party is big mad that the welfare leech is a white guy named Brad,” he posted.
