Digital marketing and the online presence of farmers and food producers were the focus of the first session of the Farmers and Markets – Competitive through Sustainability forum, which opened here on Monday. Organized by the Bulgarian Farmers Union, the initiative is intended as a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and the presentation of practical solutions for the development of Bulgarian agriculture.
Session moderator Hristina Vasileva said that simply having a social media presence was not enough and that information about products needed to be easily discoverable online and provide consumers with the essential details – what the product is, who produces it, how much it costs and how it can be ordered.
She added that in 2025, 57% of internet users in the country were ordering goods or services online.
Vasileva noted that farmers could use social media and their own websites to reach more consumers and build recognition for their products. Practical examples included showing daily farm work and the production process, presenting products in use, and publishing reviews from customers and partners. The importance of actively communicating with consumers by responding to comments and analyzing the performance of published content was also emphasized.
The forum will continue on Tuesday, September 29, with a second session starting at 10:00 a.m. at the InterContinental Sofia Hotel. It will focus on ways agricultural producers can improve their competitiveness not only by increasing output but also by creating greater added value.
The third session will be held on September 30 and will focus on applying the principles of the New European Bauhaus to agriculture and rural development. The forum will take place at the hall of the Central Cooperative Union in Sofia.
