Justice Minister Nikolay Naydenov and French Ambassador to Bulgaria Marie Dumoulin discussed judicial reform and planned legislative and constitutional changes in Bulgaria, the Justice Ministry said on Wednesday.
Naydenov presented Bulgaria’s main judicial reform priorities, including the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council, strengthening the anti-corruption framework, increasing the accountability and effectiveness of the prosecution service, and further developing e-justice.
The two also discussed preparations for future legislative and constitutional changes aimed at improving the functioning of the judicial system and safeguarding its independence.
Naydenov stressed the need for sustainable mechanisms for the functioning of judicial bodies, greater transparency in their work and effective protection of citizens’ rights, according to the Ministry.
The meeting also addressed opportunities to deepen bilateral legal cooperation between Bulgaria and France. The two sides agreed to encourage exchanges of expertise in juvenile justice, prevention of and response to domestic violence, asset confiscation, and the fight against corruption and organized crime.
