Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said on Thursday that police had undoubtedly detained the person who carried out the murder of Botev Plovdiv football club President and major business owner Ilian Filipov. Demerdzhiev was speaking at a parliamentary hearing on the case.
Filipov was found dead with a gunshot wound in the early hours of Wednesday.
Demerdzhiev said that the physical perpetrator of Filipov’s murder was detained late Wednesday afternoon in Sofia. “We have substantial evidence, including evidence collected at the time of the arrest. We are working on all possible lines of inquiry and to establish whether there were any accomplices,” he added.
“From this point on, the proceedings are in the hands of the prosecution. We are gathering all operational information, examining all information that has appeared in the media and working on every possible line of inquiry. We are also checking a number of other circumstances concerning possible links between individuals,” Demerdzhiev said.
On Wednesday, Demerdzhiev said that the Ministry’s official registers contain no information about reports, complaints or alerts submitted by Filipov raising concerns for his safety.
