The exhibition “Lies and Video. Though filled in, the field continues to saturate,” featuring works by Aaron Roth, Velizar Dimchev, Mia Novakova, Mitch Brezounek, Strahil Penev, will be on display at Doza Gallery in Sofia from October 6 to 23. The exhibition is curated by Yovo Panchev. The opening is on October 6 at 6 p.m., the gallery said.
The exhibition considers the image at a time when it is everywhere – not only as a means of communication or documentation, but as a form of perception, memory, and presence. The question is no longer simply how many images we produce and consume but what happens to the image itself when it becomes the primary mediator between the individual and the world. Within this visual abundance, the artistic act may consist not in adding yet another image but in creating a space for looking – a space in which the gaze can remain, hesitate, become lost, and return.
The image is not merely a reflection of reality but a trace, interpretation, and memory. It does not have to provide an answer – it may leave us with doubt, a sense of absence, or a trace that provokes a search. Sometimes what matters most in an image is not what it reveals but what it refuses to show, the gallery adds.
