Dolly Parton’s Sister Says She’s Just ‘A Little Under the Weather’ After Scaring Everyone With Prayer Request

America held its breath after Dolly Parton’s sister, Freida Parton, wrote a Facebook post on Tuesday saying she was “up all night praying for my sister, Dolly,” and then sighed with relief after a second Facebook post went up clarifying that the beloved country music legend was just “a little under the weather.”

Dolly Parton is the fourth of twelve children; Freida Parton, a singer-songwriter as well, is a twin with her brother Floyd Parton as the tenth and eleventh children born to their family.

In late September, Dolly posted on her social media accounts that “been dealing with some health challenges” and as a result “unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts.”

“And don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet,” Dolly added. “But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so l can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.”

Tuesday afternoon, Freida wrote a Facebook post about her sister that went viral in light of Dolly’s previously announced “health challenges,” sparking a flood of social media posts on multiple platforms praying fervently for her.

Freida wrote, adding a heart emoji at the end:

Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly. Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me. She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!

Later Tuesday evening, Freida came back to Facebook to post an update clarifying that she “didn’t mean to scare anyone” with her earlier post.

“I want to clear something up,” she wrote. “I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly. She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister.”

“Thank you all for lifting her up,” she concluded. “Your love truly makes a difference.”

Another Parton sister, Stella Parton, also weighed in Wednesday morning. The sixth-born Parton shared that their big sister “has been seeking treatment for kidney stones.”

“My sister Freida is concerned and ask for prayers on Dolly’s behalf,” Stella continued.

“I personally, respect the privacy of ALL my family members and will not disrespect them by discussing their personal business with anyone,” she urged. “If you need further information please go to their pages.”

She admonished those who had demanded information from her, “who feel the need to attack or insult me because I don’t serve as your information booth,” saying they “aren’t really fans,” because “[i]f you were you would not make such an effort to say some of the hurtful things you’ve posted on my different social media platforms in the past 24 hours!”

“I personally, appreciate those of you with sincere concerns on Dolly’s behalf and so do my family members,” she concluded.
