A delivery of 70,000 doses of flu vaccine for the open market is scheduled for November, the Health Ministry told the Bulgarian News Agency on Tuesday in response to a question about when the vaccines are expected to arrive and whether there will be any delay.
The National Programme for Seasonal Influenza Vaccination in Children 2026-2030 provides for free vaccination with 135,138 doses annually, covering up to 17% of children from six months to seven years old, as well as 10,000 children affected by chronic illnesses.
In May 2026, free influenza vaccination for children was introduced for the first time under the programme. Children aged six months to seven years, inclusive, as well as children with chronic diseases aged six months to 17 years, inclusive, are eligible for free vaccination. The vaccines are administered at the parents’ discretion.
The first influenza virus A(H3N2) for the 2026–2027 season has been detected, the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases said on its website on October 4. From October 5, children can be immunized against influenza with a nasal vaccine. The nasal influenza vaccine is trivalent and includes the following virus strains: A/Missouri (H1N1), A/Darwin (H3N2), and B/Tokyo, the pharmaceutical company producing the vaccine noted.
