A delegation from Sliven Municipality visited its German twin city, Gera, at the invitation of Mayor Kurt Dannenberg as part of celebrations marking 789 years since Gera’s official founding.
The delegation from Sliven met with representatives of Gera’s educational institutions to discuss new partnerships, joint projects and student exchanges. A highlight of the celebrations was a joint concert by students from Gera and young musicians from Sliven. The initiative is led by Sliven violinist Maestro Georgi Kalaydzhiev and has connected the two twin cities for years, giving children from Sliven’s Nadezhda neighbourhood opportunities to study music and develop their talents.
The young musicians also took part in joint classes with students from Gera and visited Gera’s Twin Cities Park, which features a Sliven garden and an elm descended from Sliven’s iconic Old Elm.
