It Makes No Sense for Ukraine to Attack Its Own Grain Ships – CC Floor Leader Denkov 2026

Speaking to reporters following Wednesday’s meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS), held after two vessels in the Black Sea were hit by drones about 70 nautical miles off the Bulgarian coast, Continue the Change (CC) Floor Leader Nikolay Denkov said it made no sense for Ukraine to attack its own ships carrying grain from ports in Romania and Odesa.
Denkov said the CCNS position was not supported by four political formations – Vazrazhdane, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria. He said it remained unclear whether the text had been formally adopted, as the Council’s rules require the support of three-quarters of its members. “I am waiting for the final version to see whether such support is needed,” Denkov said.
According to Denkov, the participants agreed that the investigation into the attack must be completed and its findings made public.
“What is important is who actually carried out the attack,” he said. Denkov added that the attack could also have been carried out using Ukrainian drones if they had been intercepted and controlled by Russian services, noting that there had been such cases in the past.
