Just call him the Kinky Candidate.
A neophyte Congressional hopeful battling Long Island Rep. Nick Lalota (R-NY) for his seat is leaning in after The New York Post published racy bondage pics of him last month.
Democrat Chris Gallant shrugged off the controversy in a sit-down interview Wednesday with The New York Times, saying he thought the September report in The Post — which included nearly naked pics of the candidate in a halter and with a thick collar around his neck, attached to a heavy chain — might be a “Kim Kardashian moment.”
The photos were part of an ad campaign Gallant had participated in years ago, he has said.
“I mean, all my friends know I’m kinky,” Gallant, 37, told The Times.
“I make Christian Grey look like amateur hour.”
The gay military pilot told The Times he had no qualms about his personal identity as he seeks to represent the 1st Congressional District, which includes a large swath of Long Island.
Lalota, 48, has repped the region since 2023. Neither candidate actually lives within the district.
“I just thought, ‘If my family can accept me, the world can,’ and that’s how I lived my entire life,” Gallant told The Times, noting his National Guardsman fiancé, Mike Ingram, was currently stationed in the Middle East.
He said he didn’t know who revealed the racy photos to The Post, adding that someone “had to go hunt for this.”
With the midterms just 27 days away, Gallant has made little headway so far in the race against LaLota in the staunchly conservative district, with City & State giving LaLota an 82% chance at victory.
If anything, the images of the scantily-clad candidate have helped, Gallant said.
“My most difficult thing was always getting my name out there or trying to improve that,” he said, according to the report. “And there’s definitely been a name-recognition increase on the world stage.”
LaLota — who hasn’t commented on the photos — has slammed Gallant as “weak and woke,” a characterization the Black Hawk helicopter pilot flatly rejected.
“I’ve carried people out of burning buildings; I’ve flown helicopters in the Middle East,” Gallant told the outlet. “If that’s weak and woke — well, I just think that’s inaccurate.”
