The weapon used to kill Iliyan Filipov in Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) on September 30 has not been found, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters in Parliament’s lobby in response to a question. A vast amount of evidence has been gathered that undoubtedly points to the person who committed this crime, he said.
On October 4, the Plovdiv District Court remanded in custody Slavcho Megerov, 51, who was arrested for the premeditated murder of Plovdiv businessman Iliyan Filipov.
“Other weapons have been found that we link to him, so it would come as no surprise if there is information regarding other crimes as well,” Demerdzhiev added. Premises have been identified where it is clear who had access and who left the items there, the Minister added.
As part of the investigation, seven searches and seizures have been carried out at premises and in vehicles in Sofia and Plovdiv; a reenactment was conducted; and more than 31 witnesses have been questioned so far, Minister Demerdzhiev later stated during a hearing before Parliament’s Committee on Internal Security and Public Order.
