Corridor VIII Is Strategic Project for Bulgaria – Foreign Minister Petrova

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova said Pan-European Corridor VIII is strategic for Bulgaria. She was speaking to reporters before the start of the International Ministerial Conference on Corridor VIII on Thursday.
Petrova said it had been a priority for many years, but it had not always received the level of attention and activity it requires. She described the meeting as an opportunity to maintain political momentum, assess progress on the individual projects and sections, and stop viewing Corridor VIII as a collection of separate projects rather than as one major corridor that needs to be completed.
Next year, Bulgaria will host a connectivity summit focused on the Middle Corridor. When the Middle Corridor reaches Bulgaria, it should connect this country with the rest of Europe and the Western Balkans. “Corridor VIII is precisely the link we can have with the Western Balkan countries,” Petrova said.
The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of viewing Corridor VIII as a whole, noting that it offers opportunities for rail connectivity as well as energy connectivity and military mobility. “Work is under way to meet the deadlines, which I believe means by 2032,” Petrova said, adding that Bulgaria has the political will to complete the project.
