President Donald Trump’s approval rating has plunged to 30%, with more than two-thirds of Americans disapproving of his presidency, according to a Pew Research Center poll released Thursday.
The survey found that 68% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s performance — the most so far in his second term as recorded by Pew and near the 29% approval rating he registered in the final days of his first, following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Perhaps more troubling for the president is the erosion of support among his own voters. Just 67% of Americans who backed Trump in 2024 now approve, compared to 95% early in his second term.
The numbers are particularly stark among younger supporters, with only 49% of Trump voters ages 19 to 34 approving. And just 57% of Hispanic voters who backed Trump in 2024 are still behind his presidency, compared to 69% of his White supporters.
The poll surveyed 5,062 randomly selected American adults from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, with a margin of error of +/- 1.6 percentage points.
As CNN’s Aaron Blake noted on social media, the Pew analysis marks “the first quality poll this term to show him dropping that low.”
The previous all-time low came in a late September poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, which put the president’s approval rating at 31%, with 69% disapproving.
That poll surveyed 2,140 randomly selected American adults from Sept. 24 to Sept. 28, with a margin of error of +/- 4.3 percentage points.
Last week, CNN’s Kristen Holmes brought up recent NBC News/Telemundo polling, remarking to Trump, “Your approval ratings with Latino voters have dropped down to 27%.”
“Oh, I’m doing great,” the president countered. “No, no.”
Cutting off the rest of Holmes’ question, Trump continued, “You’re fake news! You’re CNN. You’re fake news. My poll numbers are great, and all you have to do is look at the crowds we’re drawing, and every time I leave — that candidate will be losing — and by the time I leave, they’re winning. No, CNN poll numbers are fake, and your whole outfit is fake, and so are you.”
