Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Management of EU Funds Atanas Pekanov visited the “Integrated Energy Systems” field laboratory at the HITMOBIL Centre of Competence, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) said on Friday.
Pekanov was welcomed by BAS President Corresponding Member Prof. Evelina Slavcheva, who also heads the centre, Assoc. Prof. Plamen Nikolov, Director of the BAS Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems Acad. Evgeni Budevski, and researchers from the centre.
During the visit, Pekanov was briefed on the centre’s main research and development objectives and the laboratory’s tasks in the context of national and European energy transition priorities. He was shown facilities in the photovoltaic park, battery sector and systems for producing hydrogen from renewable sources. These enable experimental research at pre-industrial scale, demonstrations and training.
The discussions covered prospects for clean energy technology development and practical applications, as well as opportunities to strengthen cooperation among government institutions, research organizations and businesses.
The HITMOBIL Centre supports research and innovation in energy storage, hydrogen technologies and sustainable mobility. Its Integrated Energy Systems field laboratory features a photovoltaic park, a wind generator emulator, energy storage systems and green hydrogen production facilities, enabling research and demonstrations of renewable energy solutions under different conditions.
