Ancient City of Heraclea Sintica Hosts First Struma Valley Wine Festival

The first Struma Valley Wine Festival is taking place at the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica near Petrich. Fifteen wineries and wine producers are taking part, showcasing a wide variety of wines and flavours. The aim is for the festival to become an annual event and attract visitors not only from Bulgaria but also from neighbouring countries, organizer Nadezhda Tsvetkova said.
She said her love of wine had grown while working on the TV series Vina and getting to know the region. This inspired her to organize an event bringing together local producers, wine traditions and the area’s cultural and historical heritage.
The programme includes screenings of two episodes of Vina, as well as tastings along a trail showcasing local wines and flavours. Visitors can also take guided tours of the ancient city, take part in games to identify different aromas, and enjoy activities for children.
Saturday’s programme will begin with a masterclass on the Shiroka Melnishka Loza grape variety. Other events include a talk on biodiversity and birdwatching to spot rare species, a presentation on Heraclea Sintica by Prof. Lyudmil Vagalinski, a concert by a guitar and mandolin orchestra, as well as performances by Orlin Pavlov and Beloslava.
The festival is being held with the support of the municipalities of Petrich, Sandanski and Strumyani.
