Meeting with citizens here on Saturday, presidential candidate of Vazrazhdane Kostadin Kostadinov said that Bulgaria should finally have a Bulgarian president – someone who knows and loves his homeland and the Bulgarian people, and who puts the nation’s interests above all else.
“You cannot govern someone you despise or openly hate. And we see the attitude of those in power toward Bulgarian citizens as disrespectful. That this is the case is evident from the environment in which we live, and it is not a good one,” Kostadinov said.
“The Bulgarian president must be someone who has travelled throughout the entire country and understands the struggles and hopes of the Bulgarian people. He must be a tool in their hands,” Kostadinov believes. “From the meetings so far, I can sense the mood, and I am convinced that on October 25 [election day], there will be unpleasant surprises for those in power,” Kostadinov said. He noted that the major challenge facing him and vice-presidential candidate Petar Volgin is to restore Bulgarians’ trust in the State, people, and in themselves.
In response to a citizen’s question about the sunken ships in the Black Sea, Kostadinov replied that Bulgaria’s national security is under threat due to a lack of sufficient defence capabilities. “With an army of 12,000 soldiers and an average age of 41 among the troops, with outdated equipment and no anti-drone system, we cannot guarantee our own security, and as we saw in this case, we cannot rely on anyone else to protect us either,” argued Kostadinov.
