Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov met on Saturday with Elizabeth Chapman, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, to discuss preparations for Eurovision 2027, security measures and arrangements for welcoming international visitors, the municipal administration said.
Burgas will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, with the semi-finals scheduled for May 11 and 13 and the final on May 15.
The talks focused on the region’s tourism potential, transport links with the UK and the cultural programme accompanying the music event. Eurovision 2027 is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors from nearly 40 countries.
The two also discussed the year-round flights between Burgas Airport and London Luton Airport, as well as opportunities to showcase Bulgarian traditions, culture and hospitality through initiatives by the Tourism Ministry. Cultural exchange among participants and visitors from different countries was also highlighted.
The city and the region have considerable experience in welcoming international tourists, well-developed infrastructure and extensive accommodation capacity, the mayor said.
“We are an established tourist destination where hospitality is part of everyday life. People here are used to welcoming visitors from all over the world, and I am confident that we will create a positive atmosphere for everyone coming to Eurovision,” Nikolov said.
The Mayor of Burgas said Sunny Beach was among Europe’s popular destinations for entertainment and nightlife, adding that the region’s accommodation capacity was an advantage when hosting large-scale international events.
The meeting also highlighted the need for coordination among institutions and appropriate security measures to ensure visitors enjoy a safe and comfortable stay.
