The Annual Meeting of Local Authorities, organized by the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB), will open in the Albena resort on Sunday, the association said. The forum will run until October 13 and bring together representatives of municipalities, central government, business, academia and international partners.
This year’s programme will focus on digital transformation and cybersecurity, the well-being of children and families, the new municipal household waste fee model, the quality and financing of municipal investments, municipal involvement in education management, and preparedness for climate risks and disasters.
The 2026 annual meeting will mark the 30th anniversary of NAMRB’s establishment and the 20th anniversary of the founding of NAMRB-Activ. The traditional Municipal Expo will also open as part of the forum.
On October 12, Bulgarian Municipality and Local Self-Government Day, discussions will focus on fiscal decentralization, the 2027 state budget and sustainable financing for local investments.
The meeting will conclude with sessions dedicated to disaster prevention, climate adaptation and recovery. On October 13, the forum will present European and global solutions, as well as practical lessons from municipalities that have faced actual disasters and climate risks.
