‘INEXCUSABLE!’ Social Media Explodes After All-Time Bonehead Play Costs Washington a Win Over NY Giants 2026

An absolutely stunning moment cost the Washington Commanders a victory over the New York Giants — in one of the most boneheaded mistakes in recent NFL history.

The Commanders were on the verge of attempting a mid-range field goal to put away the Giants in a game that was knotted at 27-27 — as they had the ball on the Giants 24-yard line with 13 seconds remaining in overtime. But stunningly, Commanders coach Dan Quinn sent his team out to run a play despite having no timeouts. Running a play in that situation made no sense — as there was just about no upside, and all downside. A running play or completed pass short of the end zone would cause the clock to run out. The only thing that would help the Commanders was a pass out of bounds or a touchdown — a senseless risk, given that a makable field goal attempt was already guaranteed.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels compounded Quinn’s massive coaching error by simply falling to the ground when he saw no one open, rather than throwing the ball away. That blunder kept the clock rolling, and the Commanders were, indeed, unable to snap the ball again — with time running out and the game ending in a 27-27 tie.

“INEXCUSABLE!” Fox Sports analyst Jonathan Vilma said on the game broadcast.

And that summed up the reaction of fans everywhere — as the viral gaffe instantly exploded on social media:

DAN QUINN HAS TO BE FIRED!!!

What in the world was Dan Quinn thinking? Or Jayden Daniels? That’s a fireable offense. Completely inexcusable.

— Colin Cowherd (@colincowherd) October 11, 2026

One of the worst blundered endings in franchise history. Fireable offense. No other way to put it. Obviously Jayden needs to know also. Or at least be informed. All-time bad loss(tie),

Dan Quinn should lose his job tonight

— Jamie Dupree (@jamiedupree) October 11, 2026

Did the coach not remind him there were no timeouts? https://t.co/RsFWvkHhHv

Plenty of people to blame but clock management ultimately lands on the head coach. Abysmal performance from Dan Quinn

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) October 11, 2026

How does Dan Quinn survive that?

Commanders run the ball with Jayden Daniels — while already in field goal range — and the clock runs out because they have no timeouts left

It ends in a 27-27 tie. LOL

— Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) October 11, 2026

Point the finger anywhere you want for that horrible mistake.

But at the end of the day this falls on the head coach.

Dan Quinn will need to own this at the podium.

— Scott Abraham (@Scott7news) October 11, 2026

What the hell?

The Commanders are well within field goal range and they let the clock run out????

No urgency … no spiking the ball … Did the coaches prepare these guys at all for those last few plays?

My goodness.

Giants 27, Commanders 27

A well-deserved tie.

What an absolute disaster from the @Commanders at the end of this game.
