It looks like Christmas and Hanukkah are going to come a bit early for progressives this year, according to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten.
Enten shared his “most likely” result from the midterm elections in a Sunday report, with the data guru busting out his favorite prop — his old school landline phone — and telling viewers this is “the one you should be calling all your friends about.” Or at least the ones who care a lot about politics.
He then pointed to the monitor behind him, showing he predicts the Democrats have a 67% shot at taking control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Enten said this is thanks to the Dems making big gains with voters in states like Iowa, Alaska, Michigan, and even Kansas, which hasn’t had a Blue senator since the 1930s.
A big issue for the GOP: they’re trotting out a lot of unpopular candidates, Enten said. His poll aggregation pointed to a handful of candidates with ugly net approval ratings, like Sen. John Husted (R) in Ohio, who is 13 points below water, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), who is at -16 points compared to James Talarico (D).
“Ugh! This is terrible,” Enten said.
But the bigger problem is President Donald Trump, he argued. Enten pulled up a graphic showing the president has a bad net approval rating on a laundry list of issues, from the Iran war to immigration to trade.
‘I mean, these are awful,” Enten said.
And when it comes to inflation, Trump has a net approval rating of -56, which Enten said was easily the worst in history.
“What? What are we even talking about here?!” he yelped. “These are atrocious numbers.”
Enten’s segment comes a few weeks after he reported the polls suggest a “blue wave” is about to come crashing down on the Republican Party and Trump.
On Sunday, he said the most likely scenario is the Dems have 54 seats in the Senate after November, with gains in states like Texas, Maine, and Ohio.
