Sofia has topped the Best City Break in Europe 2027 ranking compiled by tourism-promotion platform europeanbestdestinations.com, with Lisbon in second and Copenhagen in third place, the municipal press centre said on Monday.
Over the next 12 months, European Best Destinations will promote Sofia internationally as a leading city-break destination, including through media partners such as Forbes International. The campaign aims to boost tourism and create new opportunities for local businesses, cultural events and tourism services.
During the procedure, more than 11,000 people voted for 64 European destinations, selected by independent travel journalists. “We are proud that so many people chose Sofia. Our ambition is to welcome more visitors and give them reasons to return,” Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev emphasized. He pointed out that the city’s next challenge is to turn growing international interest into sustained visitor numbers and long-term benefits for Sofia’s local economy and cultural sector.
