The third Sofia Art Fair generated nearly EUR 500,000 in art sales and drew a record number of visitors, its organizers said on Tuesday.
Held at Sofia Tech Park from October 8 to 11, the fair brought together 27 galleries and exhibitors from eight countries, presenting works by 88 artists from 17 countries. Curated by international art dealer and gallery owner Stefan Stoyanov, it featured painting, sculpture, photography, video art, installations and digital art.
Highlights included Yves Tochev’s Chromosome, digital works by Marin Petkov, miniatures by British artist Lee Edwards and works by Christo and Jeanne-Claude never before shown in Bulgaria, including a collage related to their monumental project The Mastaba. Italian gallery Pinksummer, representing Tomás Saraceno, sold more than EUR 200,000 worth of art, with Bulgarian collectors buying almost all the works, the organizers said.
International exhibitors included galleries from Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, Turkiye, Georgia and Hungary. Depo Savremie, a public gallery initiative based in Kazanlak, was among the Bulgarian participants. More than 200 students took part in organized visits introducing them to contemporary art.
The accompanying SAF Talks programme brought together artists, curators, collectors and international experts to discuss the Venice Biennale, art promotion, mentoring and collecting. An interactive installation by Good Game Festival and TDB Play explored Bulgaria’s recent history through the evolution of gaming culture and technology.
Sofia Art Fair is organized by the Sofia Breathes Foundation in partnership with Art & Culture Today, with support from Bulgaria’s Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality. The next edition is scheduled for October 7 to 10, 2027.
