Participation in student Olympiads highlights the achievements of Bulgaria’s education system and demonstrates that, despite its challenges, positive developments are taking place, Minister of Education and Science Prof. Georgi Valchev said at a press conference at the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) National Press Club. The event marked the launch of the second edition of the campaign “Participate! The Olympiad Is for Everyone,” organized by the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association and the Ministry of Education and Science. The initiative aims to encourage more students, teachers and school principals to take part in the municipal rounds of academic Olympiads. BTA is the campaign’s main media partner.
The press conference was also attended by Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association Board member Elena Marinova, and Julia Sokolova, BTA Secretary General.
Valchev stressed that Olympiads help students develop confidence, learn to overcome challenges and build respectful relationships with their peers. He noted that these academic competitions offer a positive alternative to the challenges and forms of competition that often gain popularity on social media.
Greater participation in Olympiads could help establish new role models for students and foster a stronger sense of community, said the minister. He added that taking part in such competitions allows young people to discover their abilities and gain confidence in their capacity to succeed.
Valchev thanked BTA for supporting the initiative and its broader commitment to education, adding that upcoming changes are expected to help take Bulgaria’s education system to a new level. He also praised the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association in Natural Sciences for its efforts to encourage more students to participate.
Sokolova said the first edition of the campaign had demonstrated that joint efforts could encourage more students to take their first steps in academic Olympiads.
BTA aims to ensure that the opportunity reaches children across all regions of the country. Through its network of national press clubs and regional correspondents, the agency can promote the initiative and highlight students’ achievements, Sokolova said.
