Speaking at a campaign event in Burgas on Wednesday, presidential candidate Iliana Iotova said that she want to be Bulgaria’s president of peace. “I want to be Bulgaria’s president of peace, and I will do everything in my power, in this world so difficult, dangerous, and full of unknown challenges, to help bring about peace talks and diplomacy in Ukraine,” she added.
She recalled that at the end of September, she had delivered two speeches at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. One focused on peace and an end to the war, while the other addressed the Black Sea.
“I said that we must do everything possible, at the international and global levels, to ensure that the Black Sea remains a safe area for navigation,” Iotova said. In her words, the sea must remain a place for people.
“The Black Sea must continue to be a sea for all of us—for the people, for Bulgarians, and for tourists,” Iotova said. She added that a collective effort was also needed to ensure security in the region.
She said that many of her counterparts from 193 countries had heard her message and expressed their support. She stressed that the Black Sea was an integral part of national, regional, European, and global security, as corridors that are essential to global food security pass through it.
Vice-presidential candidate Kiril Valchev also joined Iotova at the campaign meeting in Burgas.
