The government has approved an additional transfer of over EUR 4.8 million to the budget of Burgas Municipality to fund preparations for and the hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, the government press service said Wednesday.
On August 14, Burgas was picked by the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to host the 71st edition of Eurovision in May 2027.
The funding will cover preparations and the organization of the contest in accordance with the approved schedule, including the organization of a test event and subsequent technical preparations at Arena Burgas.
The contest serves as a platform for public diplomacy and for strengthening Bulgaria’s standing as a key partner in Europe’s cultural and media landscape, the government said. Hosting the event is considered a strategic investment with a high return for the host country.
Organizing an event of this scale requires substantial organizational, logistical and technical preparations. International experience shows that preparations and the hosting of the contest involve cooperation between the public broadcaster of the host country, the host city and the government, which provides institutional coordination and financial support and ensures security and public order.
