Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border control checkpoint seized EUR 162,700 in undeclared cash during an inspection of a truck leaving the country, the National Customs Agency reported on Thursday. On October 13, a Turkish-registered truck driven by a Turkish national arrived at the checkpoint. The cargo was declared as fruit shipped from the Netherlands through Bulgaria to Georgia.
The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, including an X-ray scan, which detected areas with suspicious densities that proved to contain the cash. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated.
