There are suspects in the arson attack on Starlink communication antennas, acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Lyubomir Nikolov told reporters on Thursday. He said he could not provide details because this could jeopardize the investigation.
On October 14, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at a parliamentary hearing that an investigation was under way and that there would be results. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, who also appeared before Parliament, said additional security measures had been taken by Interior Ministry units to protect similar sites across the country, although responsibility for these facilities rests with their owners.
The arson attack was reported by Ivaylo Mirchev MP of Democratic Bulgaria on October 12. He said that eleven antennas used in communication with Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite communications system, had been deliberately set on fire at a secret facility near Sofia.
In a Facebook post, Mirchev said the damaged antennas provide a key link to Elon Musk’s satellites, which are also actively used in the war in Ukraine. According to him, two masked men set fire to 11 of the 17 SpaceX antennas at the site used to connect to Starlink satellites.
