Bulgarian film Made in EU (2025), directed by Stefan Komandarev, will be screened at Mladost Cinema in Bratislava, Slovakia, on October 20 at 6 pm local time. The screening is part of the Bulgarian Film Festival and is the third event in its programme, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava said on Facebook.
The film tells the story of Iva, who works in a textile factory in a small Bulgarian town. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she becomes the first person in the town to test positive for the virus and gradually faces accusations, rejection and hatred from those around her.
Made in EU explores themes of human dignity, fear, prejudice and social injustice, the Cultural Institute said.
The film is Komandarev’s latest work. He also directed Blaga’s Lessons. Made in EU was presented at the Venice International Film Festival and has received several awards, including the Golden Rose Festival’s Grand Prize in 2025, the organizers said.
The screening is organized by the Bulgarian Cultural Union in partnership with the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava, under the auspices of Bulgarian Ambassador to Slovakia Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova.
Admission is free. Visitors wishing to support future cultural events and the promotion of Bulgarian culture in Slovakia may make voluntary donations to the Bulgarian Cultural Union.
