Bulgaria offers excellent investment opportunities in electric vehicles, energy, agriculture and high technology, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said on Monday at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.
The two held a one-on-one meeting before talks between the Bulgarian Prime Minister and the Chinese delegation.
Radev expressed confidence that Wang’s visit would give fresh impetus to bilateral relations, particularly in the sectors he had identified.
“We are looking forward to practical results following your visit,” Radev told the Chinese Foreign Minister.
The Prime Minister said he was pleased to welcome Wang back to Sofia, 11 years after his first visit.
He described the visit as taking place at an important time for both countries and the wider international community amid global uncertainty, expressing hope that it would deepen and expand their traditionally friendly relations.
Radev noted that Bulgaria was the second country in the world to recognize the People’s Republic of China and establish diplomatic relations with it.
He also recalled his visit to China in 2019, his talks with President Xi Jinping and the adoption of a declaration on strategic partnership, which he described as an important step in bilateral relations.
Building on their longstanding ties, Bulgaria and China could move beyond trade towards joint projects in key sectors of the economy, Radev said.
He also highlighted opportunities to improve connectivity between Europe and China, describing Bulgaria as an important gateway to Europe in terms of transport, energy and digital infrastructure.
Wang is scheduled to meet Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova later on Monday.
The Chinese Foreign Minister is visiting Bulgaria as part of a tour of Azerbaijan and the Balkans. He has already visited Croatia and Montenegro.
