A “suspicious phone call” sent authorities scrambling at the President Donald J. Trump International Airport in West Palm Beach, FL, Sunday, just hours before the president was due to fly out.
A heavy police presence was reported at the terminal and roads leading to the facility were closed as authorities investigated.
“As a precaution, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has slowed traffic entering the terminal and is redirecting vehicles in the area,” WPBF-TV reported.
“Law enforcement is investigating a suspicious phone call. As a precaution, PBSO has slowed traffic entering the terminal. Travelers may experience delays,” the airport’s X account reported at 1:23 p.m. “If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Thanks for your patience & cooperation.”
Officials didn’t say what the nature of the call was or if the president himself was threatened.
Trump, who has been spending the weekend in Florida, was scheduled to fly out several hours after the call came in, according to reports.
“Airport law enforcement told the Daily Mail they had no further details on the incident but said officials were investigating an incident around the airport,” the outlet reported.
The airport reported about an hour later that roadways to the terminal had reopened, and airport operations returned to normal.
The Palm Beach International Airport officially took Trump’s name in July after legislation was signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
Trump celebrated the move in a post on Truth Social at the time:
A very big day in Palm Beach, Florida, where it was my Great Honor to have the Palm Beach International Airport be renamed, by a spectacular vote, The President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The Area is HOT, the Location is GREAT, and the Renovation will be SPECTACULAR. Thank you to all in Palm Beach for your Vote and your Confidence. This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World! President DONALD J. TRUMP.
